Anya Taylor-Joy’s Head-Shave Story

Anya Taylor-Joy was eager to shave her head for her role as Furiosa in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. She had always been curious about going bald and was so excited that she even told her team and the fashion brands she worked with that she was ready to embrace the look.

However, director George Miller stepped in and stopped her. The movie was filmed out of sequence, and some scenes required her to have long hair for continuity. On top of that, he simply felt her hair was too beautiful to cut.

To achieve the bald look for certain scenes, the team used a highly realistic bald cap and prosthetics. In some moments, her hair appears to be chopped off on screen, but it’s all movie magic rather than an actual buzzcut.

In short, she wanted to do it, but production logistics and the director’s vision meant the transformation stayed in the realm of special effects.
